Brazilian peppertree is a shrub native of Central and South America, but it can also be found in tropical regions and semitropicali of the United States and Africa. Both in the North than in South America: there are three different types of trees (Schinus molle, Schinus aroeira, and Schinus terebinthifolius), which are still called "peppertree".

All parts of possessing a high content of oils and essential oils that produce an aromatic and spicy. The berry flavor peppered produced by quest'arbusto is used in Peru for syrups, vinegars, and aromatic drinks, while in Chile are added to wines. In the tropics are dried and chopped and used as a substitute for pepper.

Phyto-chemical analysis of the brazilian peppertree revealed that the plant contains tannins, alkaloids, flavonoids, steroidal saponins, sterol, terpenes, and a large amount of an essential oil.
The essential oil present in the leaves, the bark and fruit is a rich source of chemical elements (so far 50 have been identified, including biologically active triterpene and sesquiterpeni), some of which had never been seen before by scientists.

In laboratory tests, the essential oil (leaf extract is that the bark) showed potent antimicrobial properties. In vitro, brazilian peppertree showed antifungal action against many types of fungi and against Candida. Moreover, the essential oil and the leaves have been shown in clinical trials antibacterial activity against several bacterial strains.
In other in vitro tests, the extract of leaf brazilian peppertree showed antiviral action against several viruses. Studies of 1976 and 2002, have finally proved toxic action against human cancer cells, particularly those of the liver.

Over the years I have been also conducted research on brazilian peppertree that have further validated some of the traditional uses of this plant, including those of hypotensive, uterine stimulant, analgesic, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory.

Besides these uses, many others are found in folk medicine to all parts of the plant were used.
Brazilian peppertree has a long history of use as an astringent, antibacterial, diuretic, digestive, tonic, antiviral, healing.
Is still used in folk medicine in many countries, for different diseases and problems.

Traditional preparation:

* Leaves: a cup of infused two or more times a day for menstrual problems.


Contraindications:
